Suri Foundation is responding to COVID-19 both locally and globally
#UpvasCorona – Global Awareness Campaign to support and honor the migrant workers and daily wage earners.
We are acting with urgency in protecting the front line workers in Maryland, states across India, and other impacted countries. Our current projects are below and we need funds to continue to do this critical work to flatten the COVID-19 curve. We urge you to donate and help all those impacted and protect our healthcare and frontline workers.Maryland:
1. We are sewing re-usable fabric masks to supply to frontline workers, who help homeless people, nursing homes, low-income families, and pop up pantries. We buy supplies such as fabric, ties, elastic from local stores.
2. We have partnered with technology companies that produce 3-D printed face shields and have ordered 500 shields to donate to Howard County hospital and very soon will be ready to supply to other hospitals if we have funds to purchase them.
3. We are also developing a website for Howard County for disaster response completely on a volunteer basis to provide one-stop access to all COVID response teams and projects
4. We are in the process of providing food supplies to 1000 low-income families in the state of Maryland and participate in pop-up food pantries where we provide groceries to people, who lost jobs and seniors who need food.
INDIA:1. Approximately 100 million people in the country depend on daily wages and live below poverty. Due to COVID-19 lockdown across the country, this population is not only vulnerable to disease, but also utter depression due to lack of income, food, water, and other basic needs.
2. We provided one month’s worth of groceries for 200 families, which costs about $5000. We are in the process of providing these supplies to more than 500 families, which requires $12000 and have identified many more such families. We urgently need donors to help us with removing hunger and protecting this labor.
